RESTYLANE® is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler that adds hydration and instantly restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles. Restylane is composed of a smooth consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance found in skin, eyes, and joints. Results are immediate and may last up to 6 months.
It is frequently used for volume restoration in areas such as:
- Nasolabial folds (lines that extend from the corner of the nose to mouth)
- Cheeks
- Tear troughs (hollowness under the eyes)
- Lips and vermillion border (lip border)
- Smile lines
- Marionettes (depression below corners of the mouth)
- Acne scars
- Smoker’s lines
Restylane is injected with a small needle and normally takes about 15 minutes. A topical anesthetic or ice can be applied prior to injection. In addition, Restylane-L contains lidocaine, an anesthetic, which enhances comfort during an injection.
The most common side effects are mild to moderate in nature, and their duration is short lasting (7 days or less). The most common side effects are redness, swelling, pain/tenderness, lumps/bumps and bruising. As with all skin injection procedures, there is a small risk of infection.
Some medications make you more prone to bruising, so it is beneficial to avoid these medications for a week prior to your injections. Examples of these medications include: aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications ( motrin, ibuprofen , naproxen), vitamin E, fish oil and omega 3 fatty acids. Please tell your practitioner if you are taking any of these medications.
